The McKettrick Way

Hello, and welcome back! We're actually getting a little taste of winter here today, with our first really measurable snowfall. The kids will soon be on their way home from school, a little bit earlier than usual, and I'm set to enjoy the pretty scenery while it lasts. I've been doing quite a bit of reading of the new releases here on my desk and have found myself a tad disappointed with this month's offerings. And then there's the book I'm about to share with you....

The McKettrick Way (Silhouette Special Edition) is Linda Lael Miller's newest book in her McKettrick series, this time with Meg McKettrick taking a turn in the limelight. Just when things seem to be going well, her former true love and country music star Brad O'Ballivan returns to town, and their attraction is still going strong after all these years. Brad just wants to settle back into small town life, and Meg is a bonus. He doesn't realize the enormous secret she's kept all these years, or that he'd still want her, and not just temporarily, after so long. The back cover blurb on this book doesn't do this story justice, and, in fact, is quite far away from the actual story. What a shame. If you're not a regular Linda Lael Miller reader, you'd just assume this is a run of the mill series romance with a heroine who wants a baby and no husband, when the actual story is completely different. (And if you're just looking for a story like what is described on the back of this book, you're in for a disappointment.) In any case, Meg and Brad's story is an emotional one, and fans of the McKettricks will catch glimpses of some of other family members in this one, and to meet some new family members as well, giving us hope for future books. The appeal of this one is strictly the romance--no mysteries or vampires in sight--and that's really the best sort of romance, I think, one that focuses completely on the hero and heroine and what they go through to make their love work. Then again, readers expect nothing less than a great, heart-tugging story from Linda Lael Miller, and they won't be disappointed with this one. It's earned four of Cupid's five arrows.

Until next time, happy reading!
