State of Oregon - 10" Quilt Block The next block in our state block series is called "State of Oregon". We'll use the square in the corner technique for the diagonal stripes.
Sewing Instructions: Step 1: With a pencil and a ruler, draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the back of eight Dark Purple 2-1/2" squares. Step 2: Layer a marked Dark Purple 2-1/2" square on the upper right corner of a Light Purple 3-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangle, right sides together. Sew along the line that you drew in Step 1. Trim away excess fabric 1/4" above the seam and press the seam allowance toward the Dark Purple fabric. Repeat in the lower left corner. Make 2. Step 3: Layer a marked Dark Purple 2-1/2" square on the upper left corner of a Light Purple 3-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangle, right sides together. Sew along the line that you drew in Step 1. Trim away excess fabric 1/4" above the seam and press the seam allowance toward the Dark Purple fabric. Repeat in the lower right corner. Make 2. Step 4: Sew a Step 2 and Step 3 strip unit together as shown below. Press seam in one direction. Make 2. Step 5: Sew a Light Purple 2-1/2" square to the left and right side of a Dark Purple 2-1/2" square as shown below. Press seam allowances toward the darker fabric. Step 6: Sew a Dark Purple 2-1/2" square to the left and right side of a Light Purple 2-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangle as shown below. Press seam allowances toward the darker fabric. Repeat for a total of two. Step 7: Sew the center block sections together as shown. Press seam allowances toward the center. Step 8: Sew the Step 6 units to the left and right sides of the center section. Press the seam allowances away from the center of the block.
