Martina McBride – Concert Review

For such a tiny woman Martina McBride sure shows a ton of energy on stage. I was lucky enough to come across tickets to see her perform at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and I’m happy I went.

Celtic Cross PhotoFrom the opening song, God Fearing Women to the last song, Independence Day, Martina never stopped moving. The energy at the show was wonderful and the fans in attendance ate it up with gusto.

While Martina has her critics that think she is Nashville’s puppet and screams her songs, I saw none of that at the show. This woman has got a set of pipes that just don’t quit. Her band and backup singers are just as awesome as she is performing. I enjoyed the showing of parts of the videos that she has made during some of the songs. During For These Times they played videos of visitors to the livestock show and rodeo writing their dreams on a dry erase board, just as the video does. The video that still brings tears to my eyes is Concrete Angel and that one was shown during her set, choked up most of the audience too.

I like the fact that she mixed up songs from her different releases and didn’t just concentrate on the latest offering she has released. I know artists go out on the road to promote new material, but when I see them in concert I prefer to hear the stuff previously released as well as new material. She also sang some old Merle Haggard songs that she did a wonderful job singing.

The set list included the following songs:
God Fearing Women
Happy Girls
Rose Garden
For These Times
Anyway
How I Feel
Wild Angels
My Baby Loves Me
Today I Started Loving You Again
Heartache By The Dozen
Concrete Angel
Where Would You Be
Broken Wing
This Is For the Girls
Independence Day
