Victims of addiction need love this season.

Children suffering from any form of addiction should not be ignored, whether they are directly connected to us or not. We have them in our society, on our streets, and in our neighborhood. Some of these children are even members of our immediate or extended families. Whatever the case, what better time to show love than now? Here are simple ways we can touch lives and make a difference this season.

1. Get an extra gift for someone: As you shop for friends and family, go out of your way to get an extra something for someone. Gifts speak volumes especially gifts that are unexpected. There are lots of options opened to us, as far as gifts are concerned.
2. Make a donation: The special feeling that comes from putting a smile on someone's face is best experienced than told. You can make donations to relevant of organizations who see getting kids off the street and rehabilitating them.

3. Organize a special event: This is a good time to put together a fun gathering for these kids. It doesn’t have to be anything bigger than your capability, the idea is to get these kids together at a place, show them lots of love and make a direct impact in their lives. In the course of this gathering, you could educate them on the dangers of drug abuse or other harmful vices. From this gathering too, you may find ways to help find rehabilitation centers for some of these children.

4. Feed these kids: Something as simple as offering a child on the street a decent meal leaves a lasting memory in the mind of that kid. You could decide to offer one or more kids couple of descent meals this season. You could also bake some cookies, share candies around, just do something fun and loving.

Finally, as fun as the season is, it can also be turned into an educative period for our teenage children. This is a good time to set up camps or forums for teenagers, to educate our youngsters on issues like addictions, chemical decency, peer pressure and how to deal with it, as well as prepare them for the new year.
