The Daddy Verdict

Hello, and welcome back! I hope you're all finding plenty of reading time now that the kids have gone back to school. I have just one more September book on my desk right now, and several that I've already finished that are waiting to be shared with you all.

Today, I have Karen Rose Smith's latest, The Daddy Verdict (Silhouette Special Edition). Sierra Girard didn't intend to get pregnant, but it's the right thing to do to tell Ben Barclay that he's going to be a father. Ben is shocked by the news. He didn't expect to see Sierra again, except at their friends' upcoming wedding. After their one night together, Sierra disappeared and didn't contact him. Until now. But ADA Ben isn't certain whether he believes that he's the father of Sierra's baby. Sierra is rightfully disappointed with his reaction, but she's looking forward to becoming a mother, whether she does it alone or not. But Ben and Sierra still have the same chemistry that drew them together at the engagement party, and Ben's doubts aren't enough to keep him away from her now that she's expecting. Both have family histories that make long-term, trusting relationships difficult, if not downright impossible. But Ben isn't going to let his child be without him, so he proposes marriage. That makes things between them both easier and more difficult, especially as they haven't really worked out what sort of relationship they're going to have. It also puts Sierra into the sights of the man threatening Ben regarding one of his upcoming trials. Karen Rose Smith always creates characters with interesting angles and believable dilemmas. And in this one, you'll get to revisit a few folks from a previous tale as well. Ben and Sierra can't do anything but work out their issues: it's just the kind of people they both are. And watching them fall in love is a great way to spend a rainy fall afternoon. This one's earned four of Cupid's five arrows.

Until next time, happy reading!
