Insatiable Desire

Hello, and welcome back! I'm nearly done with the reviews of the September books, and have started reading the October romances already. I expect we'll start seeing the October books arriving this weekend at work, and I'm looking forward to seeing what's coming.

This time out, I have the latest from Rita Herron, who's making a shift from her usual contemporary stories into the paranormal realm with Insatiable Desire (Grand Central). Clarissa King knows other people don't believe in her psychic abilities, but she still wants to do all she can to stop a killer. Vincent Valtrez is the F.B.I. agent she'll work with, and he's not very happy about the arrangement. She's haunted by the women being killed, and it appears the killer may be working his way toward Clarissa. Vincent has secrets he keeps from everyone, though it gets more difficult to keep them from Clarissa, and it's getting especially difficult the longer they're working together to withstand the electric current of attraction that arcs between them. Giving in to it could be dangerous once, but to continue to do so puts them both in grave danger from the killer, who is closer to Vincent than they realize. This one had potential, with good-girl Clarissa being the beacon that calls to the murderer, and the tortured Vincent who tries hard not to give in to his inner darkness. And, while I'll say I liked it, I can't say I loved it. It's a good foray into the paranormal realm, and the beginning of a series. For me, though, it's never good when the story opens with the hero having sex with a woman other than the heroine. That doesn't work so much for me. The scene does set the tone for Vincent's background and the things that drive him, but I still don't like it. I prefer my romances to have only two people in bed, the hero and the heroine together. This one's earned just three of Cupid's five arrows.

Until next time, happy reading!
