Show No Mercy

Hello, and welcome back! I just spent a lovely weekend at a conference, absorbing all sorts of good things and visiting with friends old and new. Now I'm ready for their next conference, next fall. Oh well. It'll be a long wait, but I do have some tasks to complete related to my visit to the conference this week, which will let me ease back into non-conference mode a little more slowly. In the meantime, I'm down to two October releases left, and one to share with you this time out.

Cindy Gerard starts a new series this month with Show No Mercy (Pocket). Gabriel Jones left behind his military life to join with Black Ops, Inc., a group founded by one of his military pals. It's not a life that invites a man to have close, long-term relationships with anyone but his co-workers, but he can't help thinking about the spunky journalist he shared a hot kiss with, Jenna McMillan. Gabe has to rescue her again, and now they may have to share close quarters for a while until Jenna is safe. If you're looking for adventure in your romance, this might be right up your alley. The action kicks off right away and rarely lets up throughout the entire book. Of course, Gabe is a worthy hero, strong and protecting. And, naturally, too self-sacrificing. Jenna tends to leap without looking, or at least without looking too hard. The secondary cast of characters, particularly Gabe's buddies, are what you'd expect to see in a series starter while still leaving most of the focus on Gabe and Jenna's budding relationship and the danger surrounding them. If you're a Cindy Gerard fan, I have no doubt you're going to want to rush out and grab this one right away, and you'll be thrilled to know the next book is a November release. If you're not really the adventurous type, you may want to consider this one a little longer while you're shopping. I'm not really a Gerard fan, and this one didn't sway me in her favor. My favorite thing about this book is the cover with the pretty hero/model, a theme which will be repeated at least on the next two in the series. This one's earned only three of Cupid's five arrows.

Until next time, happy reading!
