Annika Sorenstam was playing in her last LPGA tour event and missed the cut in the ADT Championship in West Palm Beach, Florida.. She has been a World leader among women pro golfers and decided it was time to retire. On her last 18th green she waved to the crowd and took the flag from her caddie and stuffed it into the golf hole and said, “It’s Over”. Annika has been a force in the LPGA for many years and she knew it was time to move on to other things in her life.

She is busy with her Academy in Florida and recently married her fiancé Mike McGee and has stated that she plans to start a family. She does admit that she would love to keep playing as part of her still has that feeling of competing. It was a tough way to end her career but with this tournament it was a double cut and other top players also did not make the cut like Lorena Ochoa.

Crowd following Annika wishing her well on her final event of her 72-win Hall of Fame LPGA career. In this event Annika won four times so she knew she had to be on her game to make the cut. It just did not happen as her father Tom Sorenstam remarked that she might come back but did not think so. Her parents followed her every step of the way on that last event. Annika still has a few events left this year in Singapore and Dubai so she has some good times ahead such as giving the commencement address at her old school University of Arizona on December 20th.

After finishing her last round Annika was approached by officials of the LPGA that she needed to submit to a random drug test. Annika remarked that she did not know what was going on as this was the second time in recent weeks. The U.S. LPGA has started random testing at the start of the season and they will not discuss how many players they have tested. This was routine as when the players number comes up they are subject to testing. The drug testing bylaws state that when any player is tested they hold their earnings for that event until the results of the drug tests are known. Annika earned $8,000 this week for her playing in the ADT event.

Other news from the LPGA was that Lorena Ochoa was named Women Player of the Year. It was an exciting time for the LPGA with many new women joining the tour. Many players from Korea, China and Japan have added interest to the tour. We wish them all well and will miss Annika Sorenstam and wish her well in her new career and marriage.
