Prayer for the Lenten Season

The Lenten Season is a season of almsgiving, fasting and prayer. Being Christian means prayer is always an important part of our daily lives, but it is especially important during Lent. By that I mean it is a time that we can really evaluate our own daily prayer life.

As Catholic Christians we have many prayer “tools” to aid us in prayer. The Rosary. Many parishes have times of adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. The parish where I used to work has an Adoration Chapel which is open twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. There are many prayer books to guide us through traditional prayers, or we can simply talk to God or ask the Blessed Virgin Mary or any of the saints to intercede for us through conversational prayer. I can’t count the times I’ve asked Saint Anthony to help me find a lost item. And he’s never let me down! We also have contemplative prayer, as well as simply admiring God’s creation around us. There are so very many ways to pray and strengthen our walk with the Lord through each and every prayer, and each and every form of prayer.

Below is a prayer I wrote to help us along the journey of our Lenten Season walk.

Dear Heavenly Father,Buy at Art.com

As we journey through Lent, help us to grow closer to you and to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ.
Lead us to you, Oh Lord.

Let our Lenten sacrifices truly become blessings in deepening our faith and our walk with Christ.
Lead us to you, Oh Lord.

May our fasting make us hunger for you.
Lead us to you, Oh Lord.

As we repent for our own sins, let us reflect on the great sacrifice Jesus made for us. All in the name of love.
Lead us to you, Oh Lord.

Let us spread that amazing gift of love through our good deeds and almsgiving. Guide us in spreading the Good News through all our actions and words.
Lead us to you, Oh Lord.

As we prepare to celebrate the great Paschal Mystery, help us reflect on those central events of Christ’s redemptive work – his passion, death, resurrection and ascension. As we reflect on this great mystery of our faith, deepen our faith and our spiritual journey.
Lead us to you, Oh Lord.

We pray in the name of your beloved Son, our Savior Jesus Christ.

Amen.
