Forvo, the Free, Online Pronunciation Guide

The first time I visited this site, I couldn't believe my eyes!

ForvoForvo, that's the name of the site, is the best way to learn new vocabulary (in any language!). All you need to do is search for the word you need to be pronounced.

Some words may have several pronunciations, according to different speakers' countries or regions. That's great! You can listen to the same word pronunciation and compare its pronunciations, depending on the country / region the persons who pronounced it are from! More, they have recently added a translator tool, so together with the sound option you can also learn the meaning (in English) for that word. (Note I'm talking about the Spanish words, but there are recordings for lots of languages! (240 languages, as shown on their homepage)

Although you can listen and record word pronunciations not being registered, becoming a member is completely free. In fact, everything's free at Forvo! You will also be able to download any word pronunciation in mp3 format. As you can see it is a pronunciation wiki!

To enter the Spanish language words, click here. I signed up today. Until now, I had just entered the English section to check some English words pronunciations (that is, for personal interest). This was some 40 days ago. But today, back to the site I thought this site could be really useful for you. So, I just added my first two words: 'palencano' and 'ciruela' to test how it works and... for fun!.

Their recording tool is very easy to use and my words were recorded without problems. Some half an hour later, I found two new words waiting for someone to record them. This means that, in case you are not able to find the word you are looking for, all you have to do is request it and wait until a native speaker records it.

You can visit my Forvo profile here.

Remember that becoming a member will also allow you to send comments and vote any word you think has a good pronunciation / recording. So, start learning and have fun!
