One of those good reads is the latest from one of my faves, Annie Solomon,
One Deadly Sin (Grand Central). I've been a fan of Solomon's ever since Like a Knife hit my desk years ago, so I've been waiting impatiently for a new one to land here. Edie Swann hasn't been back to her small hometown since she was a child, when her family was torn apart by someone else's lies. Now she's returned to find out exactly who that someone else was, and she's got a list of suspects she intends to push until she finds out who was behind her father's death. Sheriff Holt Drennen gets a feeling right away that Edie's trouble, but he's still attracted to her. Then the people on her list start dying, and all the evidence points to Edie. Even then Holt doubts her guilt, no matter what evidence there is to the contrary, and he can't believe it's only because he wants her. Someone in the small town wants the secret kept, and they'll stop at nothing to make sure it stays secret, even targeting Edie as well. This story was absolutely worth the long wait, with Edie's determination to get revenge and justice both, as well as her reluctance to give in to her emotions despite the pull both Holt and his daughter have on her. And Holt is a good man, trying hard to do his job while still making sure to do it properly, and to take care of Edie at the same time. Then there's the fantastic suspense of not knowing whodunit. Annie Solomon is terrific, as always, and this one goes on the keeper shelf with all her other books. It's earned four of Cupid's five arrows.
