The boys that make up the band Canopy Red, Forrest Krazit-vocals, Joshua Schmidt-guitar, Nicholas Cleary-bass and Ryan Harvell-drummer must really like rocking it out while shining a light on the way we can mess up yet find redemption in Christ. From the first opening of this CD these guys go at it with a fierceness that is undeniable. The title track "Falling Apart" is a hard hitting, drum pounding song that sings of how we try to mask our mess but end up "falling apart" doing it. They slow it down with the track "All Around Me" which once again focuses on how God surrounds us even when we have done wrong. Finally they end it with the questioning "Why Would You" again another song about straying and coming back to God. Seems like these guys deal with repentance constantly...I would love to hear a little happy song on here but maybe that just isn't their style. I mean really haven't we all had to repent for something in our lives before...sure...I'm just not sure I want to listen to an entire project that deals with it only. Many times I get request to review music and I find that I am so backed up that I can't listen to it right away but I saw this e-mail from Thomas Kaiser of the band Peak and for once I had the time to check out the music. Lo and behold the stuff was good so I'm writing about it tonight. So for all of you readers out there just know that every now and then I do check out new music and if it's something I think my readers will enjoy I write about it. Peak's song "Everything" opens with a beautiful piano solo and clear vocal from Thomas and Pat Santala, which basically says that God is our everything. Even though on some of the top notes the pitch is a little off the song is solid and a great sing along for those that enjoy a simple praise song. Another standout on the project is the song "Hear Me Say" which speaks of telling God that what we desire is his direction and truth because "this world is not all that it seems" very nice tune. This is great start for this group one can only hope that they stay on this track and improve with time as many great bands eventually do as the years go by.
