Windows 7 Speech Recognition Review

A couple of days ago I decided to try using speech recognition software that is included with windows seven.  I decided what is article that I would dictate instead of typing in article.  To test the software I will not make corrections while I type or dictate.  Because of that the first two paragraphs me contain errors or Ms. Allen depending on how well the dictation will work.  I will provide what the paragraph should say at the end of the article.

Starting in Windows Vista speech recognition software was built into the operating system.  It is also included with windows seven in Canby you to contain document spreadsheet and can also be used to dictate windows command fun to have for navigation.  As you can think the software does not understand everything plus you need to speak slowly or if we’ve slower than usual.

The navigation command work well hobbled bleed better and the software with an queue dictation.  As you use the software that software show and adapt better to your voice.  I guess point I have only trained the software want before typing the article.  Compared to voice recognition software I have used before the built in software and Microsoft windows seven works fairly well.

I find that the lower I speak the better the software perform but it is hard and strange to talk very slow.  I also know that software does not pick up laurel war in but Don pickup background noise.  It should all know be noted I am using the built in microphone while the text that microphone is recommended.

Below are the actual paragraphs with the mistakes in bold. In full disclosure I did fix some mistakes as I typed (using speech recognition) to test the editing features of the software.

A couple of days ago I decided to try using speech recognition software that is included with Windows 7.  I decided for this article that I would dictate instead of typing the article.  To test the software I will not make corrections while I type or dictate.  Because of that the first two paragraphs may contain errors or misspellings depending on how well the dictation will work.  I will provide what the paragraphs should say at the end of the article.

Starting in Windows Vista speech recognition software was built into the operating system.  It is also included with Windows 7 and can be used to dictate document(s) spreadsheet(s) and can also be used to dictate Windows commands for system navigation.  As you speak the software does not understand everything plus you need to speak slowly or more slowly than usual.

The navigation command(s) work well much better than the software speech dictation.  As you use the software the software should adapt better to your voice.  I this point I have only trained the software once before typing this article.  Compared to voice recognition software I have used before the built in software in Microsoft Windows 7 works fairly well.

I find that the slower I speak the better the software perform(s) but it is hard and strange to talk very slow.  I also notice that software does not pick up every word but does pickup background noise.  It should also be noted I am using the built in microphone while an external microphone is recommended.

As you tell from comparing the dictated versus the typed text the speech recognition software does not recognize everything that is spoken. I am sure that over time and with practice and training the software will become more accurate than it is now. In addition, it is possible to correct the text as you type either using the keyboard or voice commands which allows you to dictate and correct at the same time.

If you a looking for a cheap (as in free) product for dictating instead of typing the built-in voice recognition software in Windows Vista and Windows 7 may be all you need. If you need a more accurate method of dictation or speech recognition than a third party product may work out better for you needs.

Stay tuned for the next article which will cover how setup and use the voice recognition software in Windows.
