Cloud Mobile Computing, What Is It?

Just recently my company entered the ‘cloud server’ world and it has been great. Information is downloaded fast and accurate into our mobile APP’s and working seamlessly. Cloud mobile computing is changing not only how companies write programs but access them.

Quoting from Wikipedia:
Cloud computing is Internet-based computing, whereby shared resources, software, and information are provided to computers and other devices on demand, as with the electricity grid.

Cloud computing is a single system bringing data together with many different devices. To achieve maximum power and storage a server increases capabilities by pooling resources which enable increased demand to be balanced.

Cloud computing is real time data. When an application is cloud-enabled the data resides in the cloud and each update is transmitted as they are made. Basically this means you no longer have to ‘sync’ your data. Syncing is done the moment you connect to the cloud by pushing this data into the cloud.

So are you asking yourself how this cloud computing will effect you? Most likely it already does. Much of what you have, or think you have, really resides in the clouds. For example if you own a Kindle eBook Reader APP your purchased books are stored in the clouds and are downloaded from the cloud server directly into your APP. Email is another application that lives in the clouds. Email via the IMAP protocol. Most smartphones use this type of email. The email server holds all the data and this data is replicated to several devices at the same time ~ your desktop computer, your laptop and your smartphone.

Sharp Corporation is set tol launch a new cloud-based media service business, named “GALAPAGOS.” This service is to provide an unique experience as they evolve to meet customer’s changing needs. Sharp’s first test market will be an e-bookstore service and they have developed two types of eBook Readers. ‘Automatic Scheduled Delivery Service’ is part of this new eBookstore and is a fee based service for periodical publications such as newspapers and magazines.

Many are looking to using cloud computing for streaming movies in real time. When this happens your movie library may very well be stored in the clouds instead of on a DVD! There are many streaming games that reside in the cloud like OnLive and Gaikai.

Today every application or APP has to provide their own database and syncing functionality. The trend is pretty clear. The world is headed to the clouds.
