Come Unto Christ Program-Week 1

I recently came across a program in my files and I wanted to share it with you today. I am not sure who originally put this together, so if you know, please drop me a line so I can properly credit them.

This program is a personal one, and I have it printed on index cards with a cover and it is bound together by a metal ring in the corner.

I am going to share this over two weeks, so this doesn't get too long. This can be started at any time, and you will do it for 14 consecutive days. At the end, you will be closer to your Savior.

Come Unto Christ

A FOURTEEN DAY WALK WITH CHRIST

"Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice and open the door, I will com in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me."
~Revelation 3:20

Day 1 "Come Follow Me"

Challenge:

Display a picture of the Savior in a special place to remind you of Him.

Read all of 3 Nephi in the next fourteen days.

Scripture:

2 Nephi 26:33...he inviteth them all to come unto him and partake of his goodness; and he denieth none that come unto him, black and white, bond and free, make and female; and he remembereth the heathen, and all are alike unto God, both Jew and Gentile.

Thought:

"Jesus is my friend. None other has given me so much. 'Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.' (John 15:13) He gave His life for me. He opened the way to eternal life. Only a God could do this. I hope I am deemed worthy of being a friend to Him."
~President Gordon B. Hinckley, May 2000

Day 2 Go Forth With Faith

Challenge:

Put complete trust in the Lord by asking Him to help you with something specific.

Scripture:

Alma 32:27...But behold, if ye will awake and arouse your faculties, even to an experiment upon my words, and exercise a particle of faith, yea, even if ye can no more than desire to believe, let this desire work in you, even until ye believe in a manner that ye can five place for a portion of my words.

Thought:

"We can say 'We believe in Christ' as we believe in the sun at noon day, not that we see it, but by it we can see everything.

Faith is not believe with proof, but trust without reservation."
~Elton Trueblood

Day 3 Prayer is the Soul's Sincere Desire

Challenge:

Begin and end each day with a prayer. Ask the Lord to guide our steps and then make an accounting to Him of how well you did.

Scripture:

Phillippians 4:6-7...Be careful for nothing: but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Thought:

"The marvelous thing about prayer is that it is personal, it is individual, it is private in terms of your speaking to your Father in Heaven. Ask God to forgive your sins. Ask Him to bless you. Ask Him to help you realize your righteous and worthy ambitions. Ask Him to help you with your studies. Ask Him to take away your worries and fears. Ask Him to help you find a companion with whom you can share your life. Ask Him for all of the things that mean so much to you. He stands ready to help because we are His sons and daughters. Don't ever forget that."
~President Gordon B. Hinckley

Day 4 As I Search the Holy Scriptures

Challenge:

Read the scriptures every day. Write down what you learn as you read.

Scriptures:

2 Nephi 4:15...My soul delighteth in the scriptures, and my heart pondereth them.

D&C 18:34-35...These words are not of men nor of man, but of me; wherefore, you shall testify they are of me and not of man: For it is my voice which speaketh them unto you: for they are given by any Spirit unto you, and by my power you can read them one to another, and save it were by my power you could not have them.

Thought:

"We treasure the word of God not only by reading the words of the scriptures but by studying them. We may be nourished more by pondering a few words and allowing the Holy Ghost to make them treasures to us, than to pass quickly and superficially over whole chapters of scripture."
~Elder Henry B. Eyring

Day 5 Keep Commandments and Temple Covenants

Challenge

Choose one commandment that you need to improve on. Study what the scriptures tell you about it and then set a goal to work on it.

Scriptures:

John 14:15...If ye love me, keep my commandments.

D&C 14:7...And if you keep my commandments and enure to the end you shall have eternal life, which gift is the greatest of all the gifts of God.

Mosiah 2:22...and he has promised you that if ye would keep his commandments ye shall prosper in the land; and he never doth vary from that which he hath said; therefore, if ye do keep hi commandments he doth bless you and prosper you.

Thought:

"To know and keep the commandments we must know and follow the Savior and the prophets of God."
~Elder Robert D. Hales

Day 6 An Attitude of Gratitude

Challenge:

Thank Heavenly Father for all He has given you without asking for anything.

Write a note or letter to someone who has mad a difference in your life.

Scriptures:

Mosiah 2:20...Render all the thanks and praise which your whole soul has power to possess to that God who created you and has kept and preserved you.

D&C 59:7...Thou shalt thank the Lord thy God in all things.

Thought:

"'Thanks' is an encouraging word when you say it, an inspiring work when you hear it, and a magic word when you mean it."
~Unknown

Day 7 Love One Another

Challenge:

Do something special for someone in secret with no expectation of thanks.

Scriptures:

John 13:34-35...A new commandment I five unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

Mark 25:40...Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

Thought

"Unless the way we live draws us closer to our Heavenly Father and to our fellowmen there is an enormous emptiness in our lives. God does notice us and watches over us, but it is usually through another person that he meets our needs. Therefore, it is vital that we serve each other."
~President Spencer W. Kimball
