Scuba Diving - Though many people are unaware Nova Scotia is actually a very popular travel destination for divers. With so much open coast lines it really only makes sense. Most of the divers that visit are in search of sunken ships which can be found aplenty since Nova Scotia's past is riddled with stories of how rocky coves, fog (or iceberg’s) got the better of even the best venturing out at sea, not to mention that back in the 1700's most of the battles were fought from ships. All of this has played a large role in turning Nova Scotia’s ocean into a playground for wreck enthusiasts. You can learn a lot about our past from diving along these shores and to make sure that it stays this way a law has been passed preventing divers from removing artefacts from the sites. This maybe discouraging for those who want a souvenir of their trip but on the up side it means that everything will still be there to find in years to come. Nova Scotia has many stores and businesses that supply the gear needed for diving, Charter services can also be found abundant many of which specialize in diving needs.
**If you have never participated in a dive before you will need to take a few courses before being permitted on a wreck dive. The courses do not take very long the beginner diving class is about 2 weeks but the advanced diving takes only a weekend (you will still need to take the specialty course in wreck diving after these two). On the plus side you can make it a family event since you can begin diving as young as the age of 10.
Kayaking - Canada is filled with an array of lakes, rivers and seaways that are practically made for kayakers. I am sure that most will agree that you have never experienced Canada until you have seen it from this perspective. Kayaking provides a great escape from city life, it peaceful, beautiful and bestows upon you the unique opportunity to take in landscapes and wildlife in a way that you would never have the chance to see by land.
