The Greatest Showman

The Greatest Showman
From his humble beginnings as an orphaned, destitute boy, Phineas Taylor Barnum was driven for greatness. After losing his tailor father, Phineas finds himself living on the streets, with only Charity, the daughter of one of his father’s clients, as his friend. Once they’re of age, the two marry, despite the chagrin of Charity’s parents. After years of struggling and two daughters together, P.T. comes up with the idea of a wax museum at first before shifting his focus on putting some of the world’s more unique performers on the center stage. But, while risking it all, he soon learns that he may lose it all. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “The Greatest Showman”.

∙ P.T. Barnum is trying to recruit Phillip Carlyle to help with his show. As they’re first talking, there are peanut shells on the bar near P.T. When Carlyle is dancing on the bar, the shells are gone. But, they’re back on the bar top when Carlyle starts to walk away.

∙ The performers are singing “This Is Me” in the streets. In the overhead view, when they sing the line “we are glorious”, Tom Thumb can be seen standing with everyone. But, he’s suddenly gone when they start dancing.

∙ Also during this scene, when they’re shown performing inside, the “Tattooed Man” is wearing his red cape. When the group is singing the “oh, oh, ohs” near the end, a wider front view shows his cape is gone. The scene cuts to an even farther view and he’s wearing his cape again.

∙ Phillip Carlyle and Anne Wheeler are singing “Rewrite the Stars”. As they’re singing, there is only one rope dangling where they’re holding onto. But, during the “Is it impossible” line, there are now two ropes hanging down.

∙ CAUTION: May Contain Spoilers! Near the end of the movie, P.T. is handing things over to Carlyle. Carlyle is wearing a red ringmaster’s jacket with long tails. The tails can even be seen when he’s running to the circle to join the other performers. But, in the closer front view, when he slides in and starts to perform, the tails are gone from his jacket.

∙ CAUTION: May Contain Spoilers! P.T. is looking for Charity and finds her at the beach. When he says “for now on”, they embrace. The close-up, front view of P.T. shows his head on her right shoulder. It cuts to a front view of Charity, and P.T.’s head is on her left shoulder.

“The Greatest Showman” (2017) stars Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams, Zac Efron, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Austyn Johnson, Cameron Seely, Keala Settle, and Sam Humphrey. It runs 105 minutes and is rated PG for thematic elements including a brawl.
