Hacksaw Ridge

Hacksaw Ridge
Desmond Doss grows up in rural Virginia and decides to join the military as a medic during the onset of World War II. But when Desmond is assigned to a rifle company, he is labeled a “conscientious objector” (or as he would call it “conscientious cooperator”) when he refuses to carry a rifle or take the life of anyone during battle due to his religious beliefs. Although he’s antagonized and ridiculed, Desmond stands his ground and travels with his company to Japan as a medic. When the Battle of Okinawa begins, his fellow soldiers soon realize they’ve misjudged him, as Desmond risks his own life to save others. Here are a few movie mistakes to looks for while watching “Hacksaw Ridge”.

∙ Desmond is on the bus, getting ready to leave for Fort Jackson. Just before the bus pulls away, he is on the right side when Dorothy approaches the window and gives him her Bible. It cuts to an interior view of the bus when he opens the Bible and he is seated on the left side.

∙ Sargent Howell visits the barracks and the soldiers are lined up on either side. When he orders everyone to go outside, a naked Private Zane (aka Hollywood) tries to grab his clothes but is ordered to go outside anyway. Sargent Howell orders him to “Move It!” and in the front view, Zane is shown covering himself with his right hand. It cuts to a rear view as he’s headed toward the door, and both hands are free as he’s running.

∙ Did you know…in the movie, Desmond meets Dorothy at Lynchburg Hospital where she’s working as a nurse. Actually, Dorothy didn’t become a nurse until after they were married and he had returned home from the war. Also, Desmond was portrayed in the movie as missing their wedding due to being imprisoned. But, in reality, the two were already married before Desmond left for active duty. (Visit Hollywood vs History – Hacksaw Ridge for more interesting facts.)
