After a run in with his father and the town bullies, a young Alan Parrish discovers a mysterious game. But when he convinces his friend, Sarah Whittle, to play the game with him, things take a drastic turn as the events shown by the board become reality. Alan is then swept into the game, never to be seen again. Or so people think. Years later, when Alan’s old home is sold to Nora Shepherd, the game is found by her niece and nephew, Judy and Peter, who begin to play the game themselves. When Alan is freed from the jungle he was cast into, they soon realize that the only way for life to get back to normal is to finish the game. Here are a few movies mistakes to look for while watching 1995’s “Jumanji”.

∙ A young Alan is eating dinner alone in the family’s dining room. At the first glimpse of his plate, his fork can be seen on the left side of the plate with the knife on the right side. When he starts to look at the Cliffside School for Boys brochure, the knife is still on the right side of the plate, but the fork is right next to it. The fork is back in its original spot on the left side of the plate when he puts his glasses on to read the brochure.

∙ Peter sees a bat in the attic and runs out. As he runs into the hallway, there is a chair to the left of the screen with a white sheet on it. When Nora comes to investigate a few moments later, she passes the chair but the sheet is gone.

∙ A car crashes in front of Alan, Peter and Judy. When the ambulance crew are taking the woman out of the vehicle, Judy asks “Isn’t that Mrs. Thomas” and the lady can be seen wearing bluish boots that come half way up her calf. As she’s on the stretcher, being loaded into the ambulance, she’s now wearing dark heeled shoes.

∙ Also during this scene, Alan, Peter and Judy jump into Mrs. Thomas’ car just before the mosquitos attack. When the one mosquito is on the windshield, it bores a hole into the glass over the driver’s side, near the rear-view mirror. But, as they’re driving the car back to the house, a view of the windshield shows that it’s completely intact.

∙ Alan shaves off his beard and emerges from the bathroom with four pieces of paper stuck to his face to cover the cuts. He walks to the kitchen and the pieces of paper that were stuck to his face are gone.

∙ Carl finds his patrol car after the monkey’s crash it into a utility pole. As he’s backing it up, the license plate reads DBA454. But, a little later, when he drives the car out of the store, the license plate now says G2298.

∙ Carl and Nora walk up to the house when they’re suddenly hit with the water from the typhoon. As they’re floating down the street, Carl is slightly ahead of Nora. They first pass a green pickup truck and then a red car. In the close-up of Nora, when the crocodile starts to pass, they float by a station wagon. The scene cuts to a close-up of Carl with the crocodile and they’re passing the red car and station wagon again.

“Jumanji” (1995) stars Robin Williams, Jonathan Hyde, Kirsten Dunst, Bradley Pierce, Bonnie Hunt, Bebe Neuwirth, David Alan Grier, Patricia Clarkson, Adam Hann-Byrd and Laura Bell Bundy. It runs 104 minutes and is rated PG for menacing fantasy action and some mild language.
