Emblem Tatting - Mikami Gaku
Mikami Gaku, a tatting student of Yuuko Terachi (see https://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art304155.asp), has published an interesting booklet with seven tatting designs. Alongside the lace close up and diagram are the written directions. The directions are printed both in Japanese and English. Pay close attention to the diagrams and note where the "turns" are made. There are many changes of directions. Some of the more intricate changes are thoughtfully marked with the order of work numbers.
Beads are very important to the design of these pieces. The beading features the traditional bead(s)on the picots and over the picots the plus heavy use of beads on the bare thread of half-closed rings.
Color also plays an important role in these designs. Bold contrasting designs are created by solid colors of thread and beads. Let your inner color sense free on these and try out some new color combinations.
These pretty designs may be used for many purposes. "Emblems" on jacket or sweater or even purse. Attached to a necklace or earrings (if tatted in size 80 or finer thread) they would make a great display. The 6-point and 8-point designs would be fine holidays ornaments.
But the Emblem Lily #7 is a stunning design which is perfect as an insert in the decolletage of an evening blouse. Adapting the thread color to the color of the blouse and choosing beads that will contrast to both would be stunning.
