Where did I "leaf" off?
Recently it was mentioned that the effect of the over-crocheted picot has appeared in tatting for a long time. Some tatters have called it "over tatting." They have been making this dense outline by wrapping double stitches onto the tops of picots. This example is taken from the Priscilla #3 Book pg. 17 a tablecloth edging with grapes and leaves.

I have loved this pattern since first I saw it but I admit I never attempted it. In the recent conversation about the over-crocheted or over-tatted picot I contacted Karen Cabrera (Master Tatter.) She has made a study of it and some samples for us to see. She is also prepared a full version to share on her blog on Nov. 1, 2018.
In her note she cautions me that this is the in progress version and there may be changes later. However, it is a good idea to look at it now and see what tatting techniques we will need to review.
She decided to use a chain stitch count of 3 double stitches between picots with flexibility in the number of picots created. Also she chose to use a tatting shuttle instead of the blunt needle used in the manner of a tatting shuttle. (Not needle tatting as we understand it today. And she used the sliding joins instead of Catherine Wheel Joins(CWJ)as the CWJ will yield much neater results.
