Low Carb Diets - South Beach Diet

Low Carb Diets - South Beach Diet
The South Beach Diet is the newest low carb diet to hit the market. It has many of the background components of the Atkins diet, plus some new twists.

Arthur Agatston, who began the South Beach Diet, is also a medical doctor, just like Dr. Atkins. He is a cardiologist who had a weight loss problem and like many others realized the low fat approach simply did not work. Instead he turned towards a low carb solution and found it was perfect for him and for his patients. Of course a book followed!

The Atkins diet developed over 30 years and evolved from a lots-of-fat diet into a healthy-veggies-and-good-fats diet, as more and more was learned about fats. Since the South Beach diet is brand new and took advantage of those 30 years of research and knowledge, it lept straight to the end result. This includes the antioxidant veggies, the olive oil and the omega-3 oils. He avoids fatty, salty meats like bacon - something Atkin's later books did as well.

Dr. Agatston says that he's indebted to Atkins for leading the way and making the initial progress, and that he hopes to continue the push for low carb diets that can really help people lead a more healthy lifestyle.
