Then Comes Seduction

Then Comes Seduction
Hello, and welcome back! Spring is one of those seasons that, when it begins, no one knows quite what to expect. Last week, we had some fairly warm days, though not too much sun. Yesterday was warmer, but then some really strong thunderstorms rolled through. Thankfully, all we had here at home was some wind and a little hail, but nearby, there was a tornado. Now, today is much colder again. By the end of the week, the weather guessers say it's going to feel more like spring again. We'll see, I guess.

This time out, I have the first of the April romances to share with you: Mary Balogh's Then Comes Seduction (Dell), the second in her new series about the Huxtable family. This time out is youngest sister Katherine's turn. Her first encounter with Jasper Finley, Baron Montford is far more than any innocent miss might expect. But she doesn't know his seduction attempt is only to win a wager made with his drunken friends. At least, not until a long time later. This time, when their paths cross, Katherine is not interested at all in him. Until word of his previous wager comes to light, and then her reputation is in danger, so he proposes marriage to salvage it. Katherine has little choice in the matter, though they make a wager of their own: each will try to make the other fall in love. Of course, Jasper is such a rake, he's certain his own attempts will work handily. What he doesn't expect is to enjoy Katherine so much. After all, she is the innocent party, and what does she know about seduction and romance? Apparently, quite a lot. As with Vanessa's story last month, this one is a fantastic, emotional romp with characters who come to life and leap right off the page. Jasper and Katherine's romance is funny and touching, and just steamy enough for you to need a fan at times. I know when I open a book with Mary Balogh's name on the cover, it's a guarantee of a terrific read. This is another one that will go on her keeper shelf on my bookcase. It's earned four and a half of Cupid's five arrows. I can hardly wait to start reading the next one in the series.

Until next time, happy reading!
