2013 Public & School Holidays in Australia

When travelling to Australia, it is helpful to know when national and state holidays fall in the calendar. Australia is a federation of states. There are six states and two Territories. Nationally, Australia celebrates some holidays, but as you will see from a state perspective, some holidays are celebrated at different times of the year.

Here is a list of national holidays that have been scheduled during 2013. These holidays are celebrated throughout Australia on the same day

New Year's Day – Tuesday , January 1
New Year’s Day Holiday – Monday, January 2
Australia Day Monday – January 28 (In lieu of the 26th which falls on a Saturday in 2013)
Good Friday - Friday, March 29
Easter Sunday - Sunday, March 31
Easter Monday - Monday, April 1
Anzac Day - Thursday, April 25
Christmas Day 2013 - Wednesday, December 25
Boxing Day 2013 - Thursday, December 26
New Years Day 2014 - Wednesday, January 1

Labour Day (WA) – Monday March 4
Adelaide Cup Day (SA) – Monday, March 11
Canberra Day (ACT) – Monday March 11

Eight Hour Day (TAS) – Monday March 11

APRIL 2013
Easter Monday – Monday April 1
Anzac Day – Thursday April 25

MAY 2013:
Labour Day (QLD) – Monday, May 6
May Day (NT) – Monday, May 6

JUNE 2013:
Foundation Day (WA) - Monday, June 3
Queen's Birthday Holiday (all States except WA) - Monday, June 10

AUGUST 2013:
Bank Holiday (NSW & ACT) - Monday, August 5 (Not Public Holiday)

SEPTEMBER 2013:
Family & community Day (ACT) – Monday September 30
Queen’s Birthday Holiday (WA) – Monday September 30

OCTOBER 2013:
Labour Day (NSW, ACT & SA) - Monday, October 7
Queen's Birthday Holiday (WA) - Monday, October 7

NOVEMBER 2013:
Melbourne Cup Day (Melbourne Metropolitan only) - Tuesday November 5
