Mad Catz Cyborg G.L.I.D.E. 7 Gaming Surface
The Mad Catz Cyborg G.L.I.D.E. 7 Gaming Surface is LARGE. That is its main purpose in life, to be large. There are so many times in games that you're furiously trying to do X or dodge after Y and your mouse literally slides off the edge of the mouse pad you're using and you are slain. It can be enormously frustrating to have an interface device failing cause you to lose hours of gameplay. This extra-large mousepad aims to solve that issue.

Mad Catz Cyborg G.L.I.D.E. 7 Gaming Surface The mouse pad is 19.7" by 15.7". Yes, this is large. I'm very fortunate that my desk is laid out to have a large area to the right of the keyboard, and the mouse pad fits perfectly into that spot. There's no squishing or fuddling necessary. Once I put the mat in place, I was immediately quite content. The sliding of my wireless mouse (a Logitech Darkfield) on the surface was quite smooth. I have tried a wide variety of mouse pads over the years and this one was impressive in its smoothness.

I have a fairly large monitor and pack a lot of information into the screens I use. I'm often doing video and image editing as part of running my various websites. Between the large monitor, the high resolution, and the minute changes I'm trying to make, I both need my mouse to be able to move across large distances and to then focus in on one particular point. The giant smooth mousepad is perfect for both of these situations. I don't have to keep lifting-and-replacing the mouse to get where I need to go, and the smooth action means I can get exactly where I need to be.

The cost is not cheap. This is about twice what I usually pay for a mousepad. But I do say enthusiastically that for me it's worth it. It is more than double the size of any mousepad I've used before :)

Is there a down side here? I have to say it's this image that I am now stuck with on my desk 24 hours a day. I try to make my desk area one that inspires me and encourages me. I've put a fair amount of effort into choosing the items on my desk, since I'm here pretty much all day every day. I work from home running websites and this desk area is my "world". I would have MUCH preferred that my mousepad, which is now let's say a full quarter of my field of vision while I'm working, had something other than a giant angry robot on it. A robot who looks like he's about to punch me in the face. It's just not what I need to have lurking in the corner of my field of vision All ... Day ... Long.

So absolutely I think they need to create this thing with different images on it. If they did, I would gladly buy one.

Note: I was sent a review copy of this item for free from the Amazon Vine program.
