Adding Content to Microsoft OneNote

Adding Content to Microsoft OneNote
OneNote is a program from Micros

OneNote is a program from Microsoft that can be used to collect and organize information into Notebooks and Pages for easy access and organization. Information can be collected from all types of sources such as websites, emails, electronic documents and pictures.

Listed below are two of the more popular methods for inserting information into OneNote. There are other methods such a copy and paste and screen-clipping which will be explored in a later article.

Insert a Web Page

The Internet is filled with useful information such as recipes, instructions, pictures and much, much, more! Keeping track of information on the Internet can be difficult and overwhelming. There are bookmarks and printouts but these are hard to keep organized and up-to-date – not to mention remembering to move the bookmarks to a new computer.

Information found on the Internet can be saved and organized in OneNote making it quick and easy to find information. For example, recipes found online can be saved into a Notebook called recipes and then organized by type or ingredients.

  1. Right-click on webpage to insert into OneNote

  2. Select Send to OneNote

  3. The Select Location in OneNote dialog box will open and display Recent Picks and All Notebooks

  4. Select the Notebook for webpage

  5. Click on OK

NOTE: For some web pages it is better to select print and then send printer ready page to OneNote. This will format the page and remove ads and other information that is not necessary. This will not work on every website or web page but a lot of sites provide a print option.

Insert Email Message from Outlook

Any email or attachment to an email message can be placed into an OneNote notebook. This is a great way to organize and keep track of correspondence and email messages. It is also a great way to store any receipts or order confirmations that have been sent via email.

  1. Open Outlook

  2. Right-click on email to insert into OneNote

  3. Select OneNote

  4. The Select Location in OneNote dialog box will open and display Recent Picks and All Notebooks

  5. Select the Notebook for the email message

  6. Click on OK

At this point OneNote will open and display the recently added email as a Page in the selected Notebook. At this point the Page can be renamed or moved to a different location in the Notebook.
