Buying Glasses Online Goggles4U Review
My first online purchase of eyeglasses was from the website Goggles4U. They offer a wide selection and were having a fantastic special. As is the norm, I had to pay extra because of my prescription strength. The total price for lenses (with no coatings), frames and shipping was $37.99.
After making my selection, I placed my order and eagerly awaited the arrival of my new glasses. The FAQ section state's that eyeglasses will be delivered within 10 - 14 days.
I received an order confirmation from the company and then there was email silence. I was never notification of the item shipping, so I had no tracking number. When the glasses hadn't arrived after 2 weeks I sent an email inquiring about my order.
Several days later I received a polite reply stating that the glasses had been shipped and I should receive them before the end of the week. That week and another came and went. Just as I was about to give up hope, a small, padded envelope arrived in the mail containing a glass case and glasses. My first disappointment came when I examined the postmark and discovered that the packaged had been mail only 3 days before, not the 3 weeks I had been led to believe in my previous email exchange.
Better late than never, I thought as I opened the package. The first thing I noticed was dried glue on the frames that had apparently oozed out from under the lenses. There were also some small scratches on the frames. I put on my new glasses and couldn't see a thing. The frames had the wrong prescription.
I immediately contacted customer service by email and informed them of the problems and requested a refund. Goggles4U asked me to provide a photo of the scratches and glue on the frames and a scanned copy of my original prescription. A few days after I sent off the requested information, I received an email stating the I could return the frames for a full refund or have another pair of glasses sent free of charge.
I didn't want to wait another month for new glasses, so I opted for the refund. Several weeks after I returned the glasses, the full purchase price was returned.
While the glasses and extended delivery time were a disappointment, the company did stand behind their product and responded to all of my email inquires.
