Jimi Hendrix Purple Box Set Expanded For Reissue

Get ready Hendrix fans, an newly expanded edition of The Jimi Hendrix Experience's Purple Box four-disc box set was just released August 20th by Legacy Recordings. The album, "The Jimi Hendrix Experience" contains all the previous tracks on the album plus an additional four new tracks. The previous boxed set first released in 2009, contained four CDs with 56 rare or previously unreleased recordings, some of which were recorded during live Hendrix performances, an 80 page color booklet with fantastic photos and liner notes. All of the four disc's jewel cases are loaded with rare and never before seen photo's of Jimi and the band. The 80 page book that is provided with the set is cover to cover filled with rare photo's and unique perspectives into the life and sounds of Jimi. To take advantage of the these extras in the box set, you would definitely want to purchase the hard copy set as opposed to the ITunes or MP3 downloads.

On the box set are several recordings from Hendrix’s live performance in Stockholm, Sweden, on September 5, 1967; A Hendrix rendition of the Beatles Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and Burning Of The Midnight Lamp. Hendrix also pays tribute to Elvis in a cover of Blue Seude Shoes as well as Chuck Berry by putting the Experience spin on Johnny B Goode. These recordings are from his Berkeley concert on May 30, 1970. Other live recordings consist of Voodoo Child (Slight Return) and Little Wing from the Royal Albert Hall, London, on February 24, 1969.

If you are new to Hendrix, you would be better to start with one of the other greatest hits albums first, as these previously unreleased tracks and live recordings would be most appealing for the Hendrix aficionado. The hard core fans will truly appreciate this new collection and it will quickly become a staple in the collection of every fan.
