The Mummy Returns

The Mummy Returns
It’s been several years since Rick and Evelyn vanquished Imhotep back to the underworld. But when Imhotep is reawakened, it’s up to them, Evelyn’s brother Jonathan and leader of the Medjai warriors, Ardeth Bey to not only stop Imhotep in his quest to rule the world but to also save the O’Connell’s son, Alex. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “The Mummy Returns”.

∙ “The Mummy Returns” is set in the early 1930s. The Routemaster double decker buses that were used in London weren’t introduced until 1956. Most were retired at the end of 2005 with only a couple still in commission for tours.

∙ Rick, Evelyn, Alex, Ardeth Bey and Jonathan are fleeing from the four mummies that are chasing them. Rick eventually shoots one of them. Ardeth Bey shoots another one which comes back to fight him until Evelyn destroys it. Rick fights the third one until it hits the overpass. But the fourth is never shown or accounted for after that.

∙ Rick is fighting one of the mummies on the upper level of the double decker bus. In the close-up of the mummy, just before the top part smashes into the overpass, the pink tongue of the actor under the make-up can be seen.

∙ Izzy walks outside, sees Rick and runs back. The locks can be heard clicking and the close-up of Rick Rick shows Jonathan has walked from the car and is almost next to him. When Evelyn says “he definitely remembers you” and Rick responds, the close-up shows Jonathan still at the car and he starts to walk up again.

∙ Ardeth Bey arrives at Izzy’s with leaders of the twelve tribes of the Medjai. When Ardeth is bidding them farewell, the front view of him shows his right arm is raised but in the following rear view of Ardeth, his arm is down. It’s raised again in the next front view.

∙ Rick, Evelyn and Ardeth Bey are searching the ruins of Karnak. Right after Rick and Ardeth search the empty train, Evelyn can be seen walking through the temple. Just as the view of her is obstructed by a pillar, a person with dark brown hair and a light shirt peeks out from the right side of the pillar.

“The Mummy Returns” (2001) stars Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, Arnold Vosloo, Oded Fehr, Patricia Vasquez, Freddie Boath, Alun Armstrong and Dwayne Johnson. It runs 130 minutes and is rated PG-13 for adventure action and violence.
