Diet Tips for Women over 40

Diet Tips for Women over 40
It’s true, at least to a certain extent; women over 40 tend to gain about a pound a year. But it’s not necessarily a hormonal thing. It’s generally because they’re a lot less physically active.

So…if you want to stay fit, slim and looking and feeling your best in your 40s, 50s and on up (in spite of menopause) you’ve got to make physical activity a regular part of your life. All it really takes is a brisk half hour walk; work up to five days a week and see what great results you get.

And regular exercise is not just for losing and maintaining your weight. It’s also important for strong bones and muscles, a healthy heart and body, plus keeping a slimmer, trimmer figure.

What It Takes to Maintain Your Weight

Is being physically active all you need to do? Ok, important question! Exercise alone isn’t going to help you maintain a healthy weight. Eating a low calorie, low fat diet is also required. Diet and exercise work together to get the job done. Oh! And a good attitude goes a long way too.

The healthiest diet recommendation is a traditional Mediterranean Diet.

The Mediterranean diet is based on a daily foundation of eating vegetables, whole grains, fruits, olive oil, beans, nuts and seeds, plus fish or seafood at least twice a week.

Moderate portions of skinless poultry, eggs and low fat dairy, especially yogurt, may be included on a daily or weekly basis. Low fat diary can help you to achieve a healthy calcium intake. Meats and sweets, however, are restricted to only rare occasions, if at all.

As long as your nutrition is high and your calories are kept to a minimum, a traditional Mediterranean Diet, over the long run, effectively supports weight loss and weight management.

But healthy weight loss is just one of the benefits of a healthy Mediterranean Diet.

Studies demonstrate this diet is linked to a reduced risk of Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases, as well as a decreased incidence of diabetes, fatal heart disease and cancer.

How to Keep Your Bottom (in) Line Over 40

So, for all you women over 40 (or those of you who will be over 40 – someday), here’s the good news; age doesn’t have to stop you from looking and feeling fit, trim and healthy. A good nutritious diet and regular physical activity can keep you at your very best from head to toe.
