D-Lectable Chocolate Sugar Free Wafers

D-Lectable Chocolate Sugar Free Wafers
Chocolate wafers are those comfort food items that many of us grew up with. Unfortunately they are pretty much 100% sugar. here is a version that is at least slightly better for you.

Chocolate Wafer First, I have to admit that I grew up eating chocolate wafers. These are the thin, rectangular wafers with a waffle imprint on the top and bottom. They're about 1" wide by 4" long, with chocolate cream on the inside. My grandmother was Ukrainian and loved treats like this, that were simple and European in style.

This picture isn't quite right - the real wafers have multiple thin layers of chocolate cream in between the vanilla "wafer" layer. Still, you get the idea.

The problem of course is that they have no redeeming qualities at all. Apple pie at least, has nutritious apples in it. A raspberry torte is full of luscious antioxidants. These chocolate wafers simply have sugar, sugar and more sugar. Plus you could eat 80 billion of them in a sitting before you got full.

Enter the D-Lectable company. They have created sugar-free versions of of food stuff. In fact these sugar-free wafers don't even have sugar alcohols in them! So you don't have the upset tummy issues that sugar alcohols bring.

They have 0mg cholesterol, 20mg of sodium (only 1% of your daily intake) and 9g of carbs. This is for a serving of 3 wafers. Now, wafer eaters out there know that you have to exercise restraint to only eat 3. Make sure you put 3 on a pretty plate along with your tea or coffee or whatever. Don't take the whole "brick" with you. If you do, you're likely to find you have eaten 3 x 9 = 27 of the little yummy rectangles.

But how DO they taste? I found them to be exactly like a "real" wafer. They are crisp, chocolately, tasty, with no off flavors at all. There really isn't any reason to eat a "normal" high-sugar wafer, with these on the market. Of course, you could argue that there isn't any reason to eat these wafers in the first place :) But if you are GOING to eat wafers, or have them at a holiday party, then you definitely want to put these out. There are no off-effects, no off-flavors, the taste is great, and the calories are low. It's a win-win-win for everyone.
