Howard K. Stern Guilty of Conspiracy

Howard K. Stern Guilty of Conspiracy
Anna Nicole Smith’s one-time confidante Howard K. Stern, psychiatrist Khristine Eroshevich and medical internist Sandeep Kapoor discovered their fate in a Los Angeles courtroom Thursday when the verdict of the 12 person jury was read to the court, after 58 hours of deliberation over 13 days.

Stern was found guilty on two of the nine charges against him – guilty of conspiracy to commit a crime and conspiracy. He was Anna's manager, lawyer-turned boyfriend, now convicted of the ultimate betrayal. He had falsely claimed to be the father of her baby.

Eroshevich was found guilty on four charges including conspiracy, unlawfully prescribing an opiate and using a false name for the prescribing of an opiate. The jury was deadlocked on additional charges against the psychiatrist for furnishing prescriptions to an addict. The judge has declared a mistrial on those charges. Eroshevich had posed naked in a bathtub with Anna Nicole Smith for a picture at one time.

Kapoor was acquitted on all six charges against him – including two charges of conspiracy. He was the one who had written many of the prescriptions for various drugs for Anna, such as Vicodin, Ambien, Xanax, Valium, Dilaudid, and Demarol.

Nine felony charges remained against Stern, including conspiracy, unlawfully prescribing a controlled substance, obtaining a prescription for opiates by fraud, deceit or misrepresentation, obtaining a prescription for opiates by giving a false name or address and prescribing, administering or dispensing a controlled substance to an addict.

Prosecutors said Anna Nicole was an addict who pressured those close to her into giving her drugs. Deputy District Attorney, David Barkhurst, told jurors "The issue in this case is whether doctors were acting in good faith. They were no longer treating her pain. They were feeding her addiction."

Doctors associated with the Michael Jackson death were equally accused by the press and family members of harming their loved one by wanting to appease the celebrity and remain on his good side, rather than stand firm against endless requests. Sadly, fame and fortune seem to have more power over tough love when it comes to celebrities.
