Kitten's First Full Moon - Book Review

Kitten's First Full Moon - Book Review
The first time a kitten sees her first full moon she mistakes it for a bowl of milk and tried to taste it. Watch what she does as she tries to get to the milk!

Kitten’s First Full Moon is by Kevin Henkes.

The little kitten is on the the porch, looking up at the night sky. What she sees appears to be a bowl of delicious milk, but is actually just the full moon.

This picture book has a storyline and artwork that are simple but engaging.

The little kitten scrunches up and pounces, tumbles and rolls as she is chasing after that bowl of milk. It is easy to image just what is going on in her mind. Although the beautiful drawings are just in black and white they contrast well with the grey of the outdoors at night. The light from the moon shines on the little kitten and it reflects off the pond and we also see the shadows of the kitten on the path.

A tired Kitten returns home and finds a big, bowl of milk. Happy, she drinks the milk.

Kevin Henkes' Kitten’s First Full Moon was the winner of the 2005 Caldecott Medal and a New York Times best seller. This picture book is recommended for children between four and eight-years-old, but I found that my younger grandchildren also enjoyed it. Since they recently got a little kitten they were intrigued with this little Kittens' antics.

Note: This book was from my personal library.
