In the first of the Tracy Crosswhite Series, My Sister’s Grave, Tracy Crosswhite, a homicide detective for the Seattle Police Department, has just returned to her hometown of Cedar Grove after 20 years. 20 years ago, her sister, Sarah, was abducted and a man was tried and convicted of her murder even though her body was never found. Sarah’s body has finally been found and there are enough inconsistencies to convince Tracy that the wrong man was convicted of the murder. Tracy is investigating and running into problems at every turn: so-called “friends” of her father (who later committed suicide due to the stress and pressure surrounding the murder of his daughter) are covering up facts and making it difficult for Tracy and her childhood friend, Dan O’Leary, now an attorney who has also returned to Cedar Grove, to uncover the facts without being killed.

The suspense is palpable throughout the novel. It is apparent that residents of Cedar Grove don’t want the truth to come out, and they will stop at nothing, including murder to prevent it. Unfortunately, as Tracy and Dan uncover important facts, the danger escalates, and seemingly trusted old friends take on a sinister persona. In addition, Tracy’s boss in Seattle is working with law enforcement in Cedar Grove, and she is in danger of losing her job.

Dugoni has written a fascinating novel that will keep readers on the edge of their seats until the very end. The characters seem real, the book is fast-moving, and the story is quite believable. It brings to mind the fact that there is corruption in law enforcement just like politics and other fields in the real world, and unscrupulous people are constantly trying to cover themselves to avoid being caught in their devious endeavors.

My Sister’s Grave is enthralling, and highly recommended for readers who enjoy a good thriller with plenty of suspense. After reading this excellent novel, the subsequent novels by Robert Dugoni will be highly anticipated.
