Envato VideoHive Basics

Envato VideoHive Basics
Once you create your motion graphic or template project to sell on VideoHive, there are a few rules to follow when packaging the project into a zip file. Envato has a help section with a lot of instructions you need to follow. Here I have tried to summarize the information into a concise article.

File Size

Envato has a maximum file size of 3GB for your project. If your file is 500 MB or more, they suggest using their ftp upload process.

Rights for Assets

If you use any assets in your project that you did not create yourself, you will need to show proof of permission of use, such as a model release. Envato has a few sample release agreements that you can use. See the link below.

Preview Video

Of course, you will need a preview video of your motion graphics or template. This will need to be in the H.264, MP4 or FLV format. You have the option of the 640 x 360 or 960 x 540 resolution. Motion Graphics products require the VideoHive watermark overlay but Apple Motion Template products do not.

Preview Graphics

Besides the Preview Video, you will probably want to include a 590 x 300 or 590 x 332 jpg preview image and a 80 x 80 jpg, png or gif thumbnail image.

If you want to include more than just the preview image and thumbnail graphic, you can upload extra images in a separate zip file. These images must be 900 x 900 jpg maximum file size. You will also need to use the following naming convention in order to specify the order of appearance in your product listing.

01_preview1.jpg, 02_preview2.jpg, 03_closeup.jpg

Listing Info

When you are ready to upload the zip file, you will want to have some information on hand to input into the upload form. Your product will need a title and description, containing good keywords that will help the customer find your product in the marketplace. You will also need to supply some attributes and tags for your store listing.

When making your preview video, you might use some assets that will not be included in the download zip file, such as sample images for placeholder objects. Tell the customer which assets are not included, which design elements are not editable, such as rasterized text, and any non standard fonts used in the product.

Help File

You will also need to include a help file for the customer, with instructions for editing the template. This can be a step-by-step tutorial in a cross-platform format, such as RFT, PDF, HTML, MOV or MP4.

Notes to Reviewer

You can include information for the reviewer in your project zip file. For example, a link to or copy of the rights release for assets. Try to anticipate any questions that the reviewer might have.
