Lisa Marie Presley is back - Now What

If Elvis Presley was the King of Rock N Roll, then his daughter, Lisa Marie Presley is surely the Princess. Her new CD NOW WHAT is filled with good music and lyrics and should keep her fans happy while gaining new ones.

Why did it take her so long to actively pursue a music career? Lisa Marie says,
“Music has always been in my system… It took me awhile to do my first CD because I wanted to be taken serious and for it to be professional.”

What’s the difference between NOW WHAT and her previous CD?
“This CD is more focused. I’m trying to evolve as a singer and songwriter,” she explains.

Her first single DIRTY LAUNDRY is becoming a favorite on the radio airwaves as well as TV. DIRTY LAUNDRY has been used in a commercial to promote the popular ABC series Desperate Housewives. The song wasn’t written specifically for Desperate Housewives. and as you listen to the lyrics you’ll agree with Lisa Marie. “The song can be interpreted in many ways.” She makes it clear that it’s not about her or anything personal. “It’s generic and the song could be about the state of affairs in the world, things seen on TV and/or celebrities lives.”

The lyrics of the songs on NOW WHAT are written by Lisa Marie. “Words just come to me. The lyrics may come from my own experience…on how I feel or my need to purge.”

One of the songs on the CD, RAVEN, was inspired by Lisa Marie’s mom, Priscilla. “For some reason I saw her as a bird. I wrote it for her. We were in the car and I let her hear a rough cut of it and she started crying. I knew she would because it’s an emotional song….It’s her favorite song.”

When asked what listeners should expect from her in the future, Lisa Marie jokingly responded, “There’s no telling what.”

Her tour starts April 26th in Florida and she’s very excited about getting back on stage and interacting with her fans. However when she’s not touring, she lives a normal life. “I live in LA and I’m pretty much a homebody. If I’m not touring, I take the kids to school, exercise, talk on the phone, etc…”

As of right now it doesn’t appear that either one of her kids will venture into music, but only time will tell. Lisa Marie states, “They both have an ear for it…it’s definitely genetic.”

Another interesting thing discovered during the interview is that Lisa Marie likes reading autobiographies. Although she doesn’t have any immediate plans to write one, she hasn’t ruled it out. “I was against it at first until I realized one day how fascinating a few books I had picked up were. They inspired me to want to write one, but not anytime soon.”

One of the things that stood out while talking to Lisa Marie is that she has a very giving spirit. She has been blessed and has blessed many people’s lives not only with her music, but with her time and donations. One of the programs that she’s been involved with is LEAP (LITERACY, Education and Ability Program). She is sincere when she says, “There’s no need for my existence unless I’m giving back to mankind. It feeds my spirit. To be in this position and be able to give to others makes me happy.”

Hopefully others will be inspired to give back as well.

NOW WHAT, Lisa Marie Presley’s sophomore CD, combines good music with poetic lyrics and is a great addition to any music lover’s collection. It hits stores April 5th.

I want to thank you for granting me this interview. I wish you continued success in your music career.
