Most people are busy and appreciate meals that can be done in one pan. It’s nice to have only one dish to wash, and even better when you can also serve from that same pan. 101 One-Dish Dinners: Hearty Recipes for the Dutch Oven, Skillet & Casserole Pan has dozens of recipes for delicious one-dish meals, many that have minimal ingredients, many that can be served in the pan they are cooked in, and many that are quick and easy.

There are so many “cook-friendly” recipes in this book, it will definitely be kept close to the stove and become the “go-to” source when contemplating what to make for dinner. Most of the dishes are quick to put together, and dozens can be prepared in 30 minutes or less. Some can even be adapted to the slow cooker to eliminate the need to monitor the dishes when there are other things to do.

101 One-Dish Dinners has easy recipes for all the classics: King Ranch Chicken, Chicken and Dumplings, Chicken Divan – even Chili Mac, but also contains easy recipes for good and innovative dishes from all over the country. The Corn Macque Choux, a Cajun dish that my family loves, has the addition of shrimp to make it a main dish instead of a side; it was gobbled up and will be made again and again in my kitchen. Another dish that was quick, easy, and really good is Sautéed Pork & Peppers with White Beans. Actually, there are recipes for everyone from Asian, to Cajun, to Italian, to All-American.

There are excellent pictures of most of the recipes, and the recipes I prepared turned out picture-perfect. The recipes are written in an easy-to-follow concise manner, so cooks from beginning to advanced will have no trouble following them. The book has a complete index, so you can look up the ingredients you happen to have in the kitchen and find dishes to make with them; each recipe has an introduction with information and trivia that is fun to learn.

If you purchase just one new cookbook this season, this is a perfect choice. It will be used constantly, and there are enough recipes that no one will get tired of eating the same thing over and over. It is also quite inexpensive and a good value.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this cookbook.
