Ugly Kids Club Review

Ugly Kids Club Review
As a grungy rock band that has a sound infused with electronic beats, the Ugly Kids Club is a musical collaboration of Steve Wilson (producer, songwriter, and guitarist) and Aliegh Shields (vocalist, lyricist, and guitarist). Their edgy personas and raw, unfiltered sounds carry over musically and have proven to be magnetic among crowds at music venues all around their hometown of Nashville, Tennessee. The Ugly Kids Club have been carrying with them the plan to reach audiences across the nation with their music, and in my opinion, the band is definitely on their way to accomplishing that goal.

The pair formed in early 2011 when they discovered their shared love for minimalistic rock duos such as Sleigh Bells, Crystal Castles, and The Kills, and they quickly released a self-titled EP and a music video soon afterwards that showcased both their visual imagination as well as their musical talents. Ugly Kids Club effortlessly combines compelling musical elements and emotions that blend together perfectly, and their music pays homage to their uniqueness in terms of their personalities and creative talents. The standout singles like My Soul and Sheepskin, along with the rest of the songs, is simply magnetic and after first listen could be described as art rock with catchy lyrics and industrial sounds sprinkled throughout. Aleighs lusty voice challenges the instrumentation to keep up with her as Steves melodies compliment each track with ease.

Their music is inordinately edgy and dark; its mysterious, catchy, and cheerful all while remaining extremely enjoyable to listen to. Throughout the EP, Ugly Kids Club manages to keep their sound uniform, almost making the whole album sound as one long continuous song. It is this uniformity and cool mix of electronic sounds and lyrics that make this band stand out among all of the electronic bands that populate the charts today.
