Advent is a time of waiting and watching. It is a time for us to prepare for the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Here is an Advent prayer I wrote in hopes of helping guide us all through this most wonderful time of year as we anticipate the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ.


Dear Heavenly Father,

As we wait for the coming of our Lord, Jesus Christ, be with us and guide us to make this most wonderful time of the year a true journey of waiting, watching and strengthening our own faith.

Advent is a time of waiting and watching – anticipating new life in the birth of your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Advent also marks the beginning of our Church year. Quiet our hearts so that we may listen to you and hear what new beginnings you desire of us. Open our hearts to conform to your will. Change our hearts as we wait in joyful hope for the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Renew us and lead us to a deeper relationship with our Lord. Guide us to the new life you wish for us. Give us the strength we need to listen and do your will each and every day of our lives.

As we prepare to celebrate the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ, we thank you for giving us your only begotten Son so that we may attain eternal life with you. For loving us so much that you sent your only Son to wash away our sins. We are so very grateful for your mercy and hope of salvation. We thank you and praise you for your everlasting love.

We pray in the name of your beloved Son, our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ.
