Gardening Quilt Books
Bring the beauty of the garden indoors with garden quilts. Quilting and gardening go hand in hand. While gardening lends inspiring motifs for garden quilts, quilting offers a garden-related activity we can pursue when bad weather keeps us out of the garden. Here are some books with wonderful garden quilt projects.

“Mile-a-Minute Quilts” by Sharon Hultgren was released by Leisure Arts. This book is perfect for gardeners who quilt. It features 16 pieced projects, most of which are suitable for beginners. A number of these use garden and nature themes. These motifs include pine trees, fall foliage, various kinds of flowers, and other nature scenes. Gardeners will also be interested in the projects made from floral fabrics.

Some of these designs are based on traditional quilt blocks, such as the nine patch and the log cabin. For each quilt, this has a list of the materials and supplies you’ll need along with a cutting chart and color illustrated, step by step instructions. This also covers all of the basic techniques.

The projects are especially designed for machine quilting. No special quilting machine is needed. These quilts are made from individual panels, which are quilted separately and then sewn together.

Baltimore album quilts are one of the favorite garden quilt designs. Traditionally, these intricate designs have been made using appliqué. Now, there’s a delightful innovative approach using colored pencils and embroidery. “Faux Applique” by award winning designer Helen Stubbings was released by the American Quilter’s Society.

This features seven stunning designs that will delight the hearts of gardeners. Suitable for beginners, these projects include table runners, several pillows and cushions, wall hangings, and quilts in various sizes. This book covers all of the basic instructions and techniques. For each project, this has detailed step by step, color illustrated instructions. There is a list of the materials and supplies and a cutting chart for each quilt. This has full size templates for each design. Throughout the book are boxes with quick tips.
