COP 15 Result
United Nations' climate change conference of 2009 or, COP15 created a lot of interest all around the world. COP stands for Conference of Parties. In Copenhagen delegates from 192 countries met to discuss climate change and to map out a strategy for reducing global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Other issues were adaptation, mitigation, technology transfer and financing the developing countries for their adaptation, mitigation and reforestation efforts.

The conference was held from December 7 to December 18, 2009. The prime issue was the common threat to our environment, that is, climate change. The participators were world leaders, press, negotiators, and diplomats of all countries.Along with them civil societies also observed the conference. All organizations of The United Nations were also allowed to observe the summit. They tried to find out a solution to fight this global threat.

But till the last day of the summit no agreement was signed. At last the summit ended up with an accord that has eleven points to consider. Some countries agreed upon this accord and some rejected. The parties agreed to stabilize greenhouse gas concentration in the atmosphere at a level to control the increase in global temperature below 2 degrees Celsius. The accord also says that developed countries shall provide adequate, predictable and sustainable financial resources, technology in developing countries to support adaptation to the adverse effects of climate change.

According to the accord a panel will be created to study potential sources of revenues and alternative sources of finance and a Technology Mechanism will also be established to accelerate technology development to meet the goal of reducing the impact of climate change.

Other than negotiating with the countries there were some other events like presentation and exhibitions done by organizations that dealt with environmental issues. These side events were focused on diverse climate change issues. There were some question/ answer sessions where organizations met the journalists and talked about the solutions, actions, observations and issues related to climate change.
