You get your first cut scene of a wolf watching the Hogwarts train on it’s way to school. When the scene is done you’re standing in the hall in what is essentially a tutorial. Playing as Harry you walk forward to find Scabbers. The people in the rooms on the right have nothing to offer you. At the end of the corridor you will turn right and Hermione and Weasley will show you how to cast a spell to unlock the door. Hold down the left mouse button and aim at the lock. When you can cast any spell the item will show subtle icons when your wand hits it. Release the mouse. Go through the door. Continue to go straight and you will be guided to climb and jump. You collect your first Every Flavor Jelly Beans in this room. Later they will be used like money. Your main character will also switch on its own as needed. You will use Hermione to push a box by casting a chevron. A chevron looks like the letter v upside down. After this, unlock the trunks on the left and right to collect beans. The beans will be important later. Go forward through the floating book which is your first save book. From the save book back up and cast the lock on the right and then the trunk. Repeat this on the left side.

From the save book go straight. When you are given the task to fight together, remember to hold the mouse until everyone joins in, this is a triple cast. Cast the case and then the gargoyle. A secret area will appear on the right. As you approach you will be attacked by books. Cast them all to destroy them. On the right you will see a chevron. Cast the chevron and the gate on the left will open. Cast the chest in here to get more beans. Keep straight to get a chocolate frog which will replenish your health.

Next, you meet Malfoy and are attacked by the Monster Book of Monsters. This book will have several pages try to attack you. I found it easiest to hold the cast button and move the mouse to aim. When the spell hits a page the icon will appear. Release the button and immediately hold it down again. This seemed to release the fastest spells. Always aim at the closest page and if they get close, move right or left quickly. After you defeat it you’ll get a card, Famous Wizards 1. Go straight and you will meet a dementor. To keep them out you will need to cast 4 chevrons. They are located forward on the left, on the right near the top, on the left crate, and forward on the bird cages. They’ll appear quickly so you must cast them as fast as possible or wait for another shot. After this Hermione returns with help and you arrive at school.
