The northern area of the hive has the flophouse. In it is Nestor, who has an ear and wants to find a fork to get him through his portal. Note that Shiregrave is missing an ear, but doesn't have a fork with him. There is a guy named One-Ear around. You have to kill him to get the fork. When you return it to Nestor, he gives you 500xp and an earring, and returns to his home plane.

Porphiron is nearby - he's a great warrior that is saving his fighting for some future date, and has lost his prayer beads. He knows those who have the beads are by the Smoldering Bar. When you find them, they easily turn them over for cash. Porphiron now claims you're a merchant without honor, but then apologizes. He gives you 1000xp and if you ask how he can be a warrior without any combat, he offers to train you. He can teach you how to use various weapons.

You meet Mhult, a collector. You also meet Fleece, who is a pickpocket. If you wish to be a thief you can learn from him, otherwise scold him and turn him loose.

Mar, by the Flophouse, wants you to deliver a box to Ku'atraa, at the warehouse to the south. This is the start of a long, tedious quest. You bring the box from place to place. When you finally destroy it, return to Mar and he gives you copper and a weapon as payment for your troubles.
