Literary Fiction

August 25 2010 Literary Fiction Newsletter

Well, school is here whether we were prepared for it or not! Included in my reading for this year is the classic work by Joseph Conrad, Heart of Darkness. I'm looking forward to reading what is considered one of the greatest works in the English language, especially since it was written by a man whose first language was Polish!

I'd like to ask for your assistance this month. What sort of features would you like to see on the Literary Fiction Site for BellaOnline.com? Is there a topic you would like to read about or see addressed? Is there a controversy, a nagging question, or a particular genre that you would like to discuss on the forums or have me address in weekly format? I'd love to hear from you and discuss how I can improve the site's content and format just for you. Email me with your questions or suggestions!

To keep you busy reading, here are the latest articles on literary fiction from the Literary Fiction site @ BellaOnline.com:

"What Makes a Classic 'Classic'" You know a classic when you read one...but what are the specific characteristics? (http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art64421.asp)

"Literary Fiction Somewhat Defined" Literary versus mainstream. People have always wondered at the difference. Here is a not-so-graceful attempt to define them. (http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art10543.asp )

We have some great discussions starting up on the Forums, too!

* Deb is looking for reading recommendations. Give her your idea of a great book on the "Recommendations" thread.

* There's a brand new POLL too! Stop by the "Historical Movements" thread and weigh-in on your favorite literary time period, whether its Elizabethan, Renaissance, Post-modern, or Contemporary. I want to know! (http://forums.bellaonline.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&Board=179)

I hope to hear from you soon, either in the forum or in response to this email message. I thrive on your feedback! Stop by the forum and let us know about your Fall read(s). We'd love to share recommendations!

Until next week,

Veronika Walker, Literary Fiction Editor (http://LiteraryFiction.bellaonline.com)
