February 7 2012 Quilting Newsletter

Hello Quilters, it’s me saying “coooeee” at your back door. We’re well and truly into 2012 with January but a distant memory and February slipping by at a fast rate of knots.

Thank goodness for air conditioning! It has been so hot here in Brissy in the last few weeks. After the rain that we’ve had, it’s been very hot and humid and almost impossible to do any sewing (unless you are blessed with an air conditioner!). I do try not to have it on very much, especially when there’s a breeze blowing from the east, but some days are so still with not a breath of wind, you almost feel like you’re suffocating. So I’ve escaped to my sewing room and have been beavering away.

My blue and white quilt is coming along – I counted 31 x 4” blocks already completed. This quilt I’ve planned will have about 115 hand appliquéd 4” quilt blocks, and about 114 machine pieced nine patches with a twist. So I’ve a great deal of work ahead of me, and I’m aiming for the Queensland Quilt show in October. This is not the only quilt I’m working on, so I think I might have to reduce my sleeping hours.

You know by now that I love appliqué and I’ve just reviewed a pretty good book from Leisure Arts titled 100 Any Size Applique Blocks. It’s a little ripper of a book with loads of patterns. Here’s the link to that review and where you can get it.

Don’t forget the forum for quilting is waiting your attendance. Register and pop in and share some of your quilting stories and experiences with other quilters. Here’s the link to the forum: http://forums.bellaonline.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&Board=43

So, onto my goodies for this week. Have fun.

http://mypatchwork.wordpress.com/2011/10/29/toilet-roll-basket-tutorial/ I don’t usually like these, but they’re great if you’ve got littlies who panic!!

And I couldn’t not have one of these…….

http://whipup.net/2006/03/01/stickin-it-to-the-pincushion/ yep another one – this one is a classic, but the tutorial is very good.

Well, I’m heading off to my Wednesday craft group for some stitching and chatting. I must admit, I often come home after my craft group and have to unpick everything I’ve sewn. It seems even though I can talk under water (MD likes to tell me), sometimes I have trouble talking and sewing at the same time!!
Hope all’s well at your place, see you next week.

Cheerio for now
