Quilting

February 8 2011 Quilting Newsletter

Hi everyone, it’s me popping in to say hello again. I’ve been a busy bee making a quilt for my daughter’s friend who has just given birth to her second son, Isaac. I’m having fun with this quilt, but I must be careful not to tarry too long – the baby needs his quilt now.

I’ve chosen a simple block pieced quilt, using bright happy fabrics and colors, and have put prairie points all around the quilt, then added another border. Looks quite nice and I’m ready to put the three layers together and quilt. I will write an article on it soon, so you can see the pictures, and I’ll include some instructions for those who are interested.

We had our first Queensland Quilters Inc guild gathering at our new venue yesterday, and I’m exhausted. It was a great day (as it always is), and the venue stood up to our expectations. It’s such an important factor in have a gathering of 150 members. The venue needs to be big enough so we’re not cramped, yet small enough so everyone can participate. We had a few procedures to sort out, but the library worked well, as did the refreshments. I needed 16 members to volunteer for the tea roster (two volunteers each monthly meeting) and I had the roster filled in about half an hour. That goes to show the camaraderie we share at Queensland Quilters. (Did I tell you I l.o.v.e my guild?)

Last Sunday I posted an article about purchasing and downloading patterns from the internet. I came across a quilt site that offers a free pattern to purchase (free) and download, to give the customer the experience of purchasing off the web. What a great idea. So many of my quilting friends are afraid of using this great service. So I went through the motions and have written down my experience. Here’s the link to that article: http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art4960.asp

It’s been quiet on the forum front lately. I’m guessing quilters are busy quilting! If you have anything to say or ask, remember it’s your forum. I’d love to hear from you sometime. Here’s the link to the forum http://forums.bellaonline.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&Board=43
