Quilting

July 2 2014 Quilting Newsletter

Hi one and all, it’s a beautiful sunny morning here in Brisbane, a bit chilly but the sun is shining which means if you can find a spot in the garden out of the wind, you can warm up beautifully!

I’ve had an interesting week – I was fishing through my craft cupboard and came across a quilt I’d started last year some time. It’s a needle turned appliqué quilt using a “recessed appliqué” technique. I had completely forgotten that I had tucked it away, so it was a pleasant surprise. I didn’t realise I had worked my way through just about half of the appliqué and soon I’ll be designing the centre piece.

I don’t plan my quilts as such, they’re a little serendipitous, and happen as I’m going along. I wouldn’t recommend this to any quilter because I create more problems that it’s worth, but as they say in quiltland, Quilters are the best problem solvers!

So I’ve had the blocks out on my sewing table and am working on it again. Luckily our 2015 theme for the Queensland Quilters Show is “blue and white or red and white”, so I’m hoping to finish it in time for the show in October 2015!

Last week I posted an article about Quilting and taking regular breaks from quilting for your health’s sake, as I’m suffering a little this winter from too much knitting. Here’s the link for your interest: http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art183593.asp
