Economic Development – New Reservation Mindset
After centuries of containment and suppression, the innovativeness and adaptability of the American Indian is being renewed. There is a new mindset of independence and success, a new drive to reclaim Sovereignty.

The previous article "Reservation Mindset – Is It Changing?" recounted the past. But what’s changing right now and what does the future hold? The Cherokee of Oklahoma have an inspiring model of business development, diversification, and success. As more Tribes turn to the private sector for economic development on Tribal lands, the suppression of the past will fail. All of us can be part of this transformation by supporting Tribal businesses across the US. The technology which provides for reservation commerce also makes our participation possible. It can be as easy as a little on-line shopping.

Across the Northern US and into Canada, Pow Wow season is in full swing. Have you attended one this summer? Please share your experience with us in the forum. We're waiting to hear from you.

In the Deep South, we’ve been getting regular rain. After so many years of drought, the almost daily thunderstorms are a welcomed return to normal. But I still have my “Rain Rock” out for friends in Nevada. Numerous wildfires have been sparked by lightning and some are quite large. The folks over in Texas are still in need as well. That tropical system fizzled out once it made landfall, and the rains were less than hoped for. Please continue to support and pray for the firefighters, and for the much needed rains to restore areas affected by this year’s severe drought. Until next time,
