The Day Before Rehab

Aneta Cruz

One more prick;
just one last one –
defeating it – hopeless

Boxed up in walls;
hear water run –
flushing her pain – senseless

Like “pop goes my heart”;
black and white –
drowning in tiles – breathless

That thin pale arm;
once worshiped by her son –
now drooping down – lifeless.
