Little America

Lee Evans

Midnight in Wyoming
Galloping through the westward night
In a red Ford Mustang
The Devil’s Tower out there somewhere

Straight ahead blinding the interstate
Hundreds of tractor trailers thronging
The brilliant neon palace
Nobody noticed me at the counter

Coffee and pie
Nobody said goodbye
Everybody was a particle
Accelerating in the cyclotron of night

Whipping my red Ford Mustang
Six cylinder frenzy
Roaring across polygamous Utah
Onto the salt flats of dawn
